Jesus - Your Greatest Need

by Jim Corner

What is your greatest need? My wife says that she needs more clothes but I have checked in her overflowing closet and have concluded that she does not understand the word need. Without a doubt there are many needs that we all have. We have the need of daily food and clothes. We have the need of love and acceptance. We have the need of knowing that we matter in this life. The greatest need, however, is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. One day each of us will die and then we will stand before the throne of God to be judged. With Jesus by our side, we can face death with a smile.

We want to tell you who Jesus is so you can understand why you need Him. Jesus is the son of God. Jesus is the light of the world. Jesus is the bread of life. Jesus is the water of life. Jesus is the great shepherd. Jesus is the one who has brought salvation through His sacrifice. Nearly two thousand years ago He left heaven and came to this earth. He lived a sinless life but was murdered for us. All of us are sinners (Isaiah 59:1,2; Romans 1:18-3:20) and that sin places us in a lost state. One of the characteristics of God is that He is just and that simply means that He must punish sin. If you, for example, commit a crime and appear before a just judge, he must punish you. He has no alternative! God, however, is not only just but He is also merciful and kind and wanted us to have salvation so he allowed His Son to die in our place. Jesus has already lived and died for you and because of His sacrifice, you can have eternal life.

Salvation, however, does have conditions but conditions do not remove the freeness of the gift. For example, you give your ten year old a new bicycle for Christmas and say: 'if I ever see that bike on the ground without the kickstand in place, I will take it back', the bike still is free to the child but there is a condition for him to receive and keep it. In the same way, while salvation is free, there are conditions.

Let us warn you at this juncture: in the religious world there are many different teachings regarding the receptance of salvation and so many of them are patently false. We want to share with you what the Bible teaches you must do to receive Jesus and salvation.
1. BELIEF
2. REPENTENCE
3. CONFESSION
4. BAPTISM

Now, it is needful to point out that baptism alone will never save you. Baptism is merely the point in time when you become a Christian and begin the Christian life. Jesus would say in Revelation 2:10 that we must be faithful unto death if we are to receive a home in heaven.

If you have never made Jesus the Lord of your life, we would love to assist you and there are several opportunities that we extend. First, you can email us directly and if you are in the Dallas area one of our members will be happy to sit down with you and study the scriptures with you. Second, if you are outside of the Dallas area and still want a personal contact, email us with your name and address and we will contact a Christian in your area who will be happy to study with you. Third, if you prefer to study on your own please check our Bible Courses. There are several options such as email courses or 'snail mail' courses where you are writing to a specific individual.

We just want you to know that we love you and want to assist you in fulfilling your greatest need: the acceptance of Jesus Christ.
