THE GREAT ELECTION

We just recently elected our President. When the final votes were counted, some were elated and some dejected. Each 4 years we go through this process and many place great emphasis on it. I am not saying that a Presidential election is not important, only not as important as another election.
You see, whether a Republican or Democrat graces the White House, our salvation does not rest on him. I want to share a passage with you that is vital to our lives. In II Corinthians 4:18 Paul writes the following: “So we fix our eyes, not on what is seen but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
One of Satan’s greatest tools is that of getting you and me to focus our attention on this life. If he can get us worried about the economy, healthcare, employment and many other things, then our eyes are off of the most important. The day will come when we will die and the day is coming when the Lord shuts down what we call ‘life’. We then will all stand before the judgment bar of God. At that time the only election that will matter will be the one we made to serve the Lord.
On that day God will not want to see your bank book to see if you made enough money. The portfolio of Bill Gates will not impress the one who owns the world. He will not care about your employment status on planet earth. The CEO of General Motors will not be able to use his position to attain eternal life. Any fame or power you possessed as a human will carry no weight with Him. Michael Jordan will not be able to produce his 6 championship rings to obtain the gift of Heaven. The only thing that will be of importance will be the relationship that each of us sustained with Jesus Christ.
You see, you and I choose who we will elect to guide our lives. We either elect Jesus or the devil. There is no in-between. Jesus said in Matthew 6:24, “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other.” In this life, everyone will choose who they elect to be their lord.
We discover in Philippians 2:9-11 that the day will come when everyone will choose to elect Jesus. The Bible says that ‘every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord’. The truth, however, is that only those who elected to make Jesus Lord in this life will have Him as Lord in the next.
The question that each of us must ask is simple: who have we elected to rule our lives? If you are not a child of God, we would encourage you to consider Jesus.
